Sponsoring North Bay Python 2026
Through the Pallets Projects, I sponsored North Bay Python 2026. I got a couple minutes Sunday morning to say a little, but I mostly used it to share pictures of my cats and talk about the conference and community I love. Here's what I shared. Check the alt text for descriptions and commentary about these cats.

I'm David Lord, lead maintainer at Pallets, the community open source organization that maintains the Flask web framework, Jinja template language, Click CLI framework, and more.
You can go to palletsprojects.com to find out about our projects, our contributing guide, and funding information.

This is my fourth time at North Bay Python.
At dinner on Friday, I asked Philip if he was giving a talk this year.
"Yeah, didn't you look at the schedule when you got your ticket?!"

I admit it, I hadn't.
I sponsored the conference, and decided to drive up from San Diego to Petaluma, with a baby in the car, sight unseen.

Because I know how much I love this conference and how much I trust it to be fun and interesting. The people, the talks, the community here, are so important.

They represent the community and values I want in my projects, and help me keep having fun as a maintainer in an often stressful ecosystem.

Thank you, I'm glad to be able to give back to that and be here with you all.
Pallets and Flask are very privileged in the open source world to receive a decent amount of donations. We're also fortunate to be a Python Software Foundation fiscal sponsoree, which means they handle our account and receiving those funds, among other things.
North Bay Python is one of the many reasons I enjoy being a maintainer and participating in the Python community. I felt that sponsoring them, and getting an open source community above corporate logos, was an extremely appropriate way to use some of the donations that Flask receives. I look forward to many more years of this wonderful conference.
